Artist Statement
“I am an artist in search of myself! I often paint what I like
and I love to experiment in many mediums; my work reflects this in my
eclectic mix of style. I once had a teacher who told me I paint like a
Dutch Master, in dark muted color, so I am trying to use more vibrant
color in my work and am experimenting with using only three or four colors
in creating a painting in my most recent works."
Biography
Cheryl has long harbored a love of observing things around her and capturing
them on canvas. She was the winner of the National Scholastic Art Award
in high school for her sculpture and attended art classes at the Worcester
Art Museum. However, the urging of her depression era parents directed
her to a more practical career. She has worked in many fields including
Operating Room Technician; in civilian life as well as the Air Force,
and as a Police Officer in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Since her retirement from the Worcester Police Department and with the
urging of her husband and son, she has been able to enjoy her first passion,
art. Cheryl now resides in Sturbridge, MA and works out of a small studio
in her basement. She likes the richness of color and the freedom that
oils give the artist, but has used acrylics and water color to a limited
extent. She also has done some mural painting in area homes.
