William Stallman, Found Object Sculpture
|
Artist Statement"What got me started making found object sculpture was walking in the woods. I found a lot of my material on stonewalls or in fields. These are things that farmers left there. I thought they said a lot about nature and people and thought they were beautiful. I was inspired to create ongoing nature, to bring into being sculptures of wild animals that are still keeping the planet spinning."
BiographyOnce a landscape painter and always a nature lover, William Stallman took a course in welding from the Mansfield Adult Education Program years ago and soon after became a "found object" sculptor. William works from his collection of abandoned farmyard implements, tools and machinery and welds the pieces together to create amazingly lifelike representations of birds, fish, mammals and other animals he has observed through his passionate study of wildlife. Driven by his connection with nature, William is artistically obligated to preserve wildlife. Back to Celebrations: |
